With a new CD “Shipwreck in
the Sand” out, Silverstein
continues to blow the minds of
old and new fans alike. With
several tours coming and going,
every fan across the nation will
get a chance to see one of their
all time favorite bands do what
they do best, put on a hellva
show and sound amazing.
M4M: We have a couple questions from the fans.  The first being, what are some of your favoritee cities you like to play
in?

SHANE: There are very few cities I don’t like playing in.  Playing shows, it’s pretty much great everywhere. Every time we
go to California it’s really nice.  We’re from Canada so anytime there’s nice weather, great sunshine it makes you feel
good.  We like going to Australia too.  It’s such an amazing place and every city in Australia is a lot of fun.  There’s really
no place I don’t like playing.

M4M: Well see you’ll make every single person in every town and city happy for that (both laugh).

M4M: Another fan asked, if you were any superhero, what would you be?

SHANE
: I don’t know really.  The thing about superheroes is they’re all amazing.  Superman is obviously the best one is
Superman.  He pretty much did everything and there is only one thing in the universe that can kill him. So in a way
anyone who says they don’t want to be superman is pretty much lying to themselves.

M4M:  Every artist has songs that don’t necessarily make it onto the albums or are created out of certain experiences
that don’t necessarily reflect the current albums.  Do you continue to work on these songs or are they for more personal
use, like to motivate writing newer songs?

SHANE: They’re really aren’t any.  I always hear about these bands that say write twenty-five or thirty songs to get
enough to put on an album and I find that hard to believe.  Why would you waste your time writing all those songs that
you’re never going to record?  What we do is we write the best twelve or thirteen songs we can and put them on the
record, that’s what we do.  And maybe you know the fifty songs that we have put on a record, maybe there’s three (he
says in a slow kinda drawl) that we haven’t put on the records.

M4M: That’s interesting you say that because there are bands that do exactly that when potentially could be putting
greater emphasis on the more powerful songs.

SHANE: You really are limiting yourself sitting down writing so many.  What tends to happen is you get parts….well the
verse is good, and there’s this part in another song that works…fine great, use those parts but be selective.  We might
write three similar songs but then tend to combine them into one for a really great song.

M4M: So any interesting stories about critters recently? Seen any running about? (Laughs)

SHANE: Well I saw a cockroach the other day.  I was sitting there in Austin, (Texas) at a bar…you been to Austin before?

M4M:Oh yes!

SHANE: There’s this place called Red Sevens……little rundown kinda town full of bars and they have these “patios” that
are like inside but not really inside. So we’re sitting there in a booth and there was a cockroach chilly on the wall behind
my head.  The boys just said, don’t look behind you, get up and com over here.

M4M: Oh nasty dude!

SHANE: I had never seen one in real life before…until then. (both laugh)

M4M: What is it with animals and your head.  Do you have a sign on it saying come see me???

SHANE: It was just chilling there for like a half hour.  We were all looking at it until we left the room.

M4M: You have the new CD out of course. What is the experience been like since the release and hearing what people
have to say about it?

SHANE: It has been really good.  I haven’t heard any really super super positive, but people have just been really excited
about it.  We went out and had this contract record and we wrote a story because so many people were asking
questions like “what does this mean” and “what are you trying to say here.”  Its really cool because it’s a lot more to it
then just writing ten or twelve songs that are all independent of each other.  It has been really really cool and people
have really embraced it.

M4M: Have they been right on the story line on guessing what the story line is for you guys personally?  How close are
people getting to the truth?

SHANE: Well, there are many messages on there when I check from time to time.  There ARE a lot of guesses and
discussions and heated arguments about it. For the most part people are on the right track, but no one has nailed it all
yet.  It’s interesting to read all the comments, because what some people say are things I didn’t necessarily think of when
I was writing it.  I remember being in highschool and having to read like Lord of the Flies and my teachers saying it takes
place on an island, but they aren’t really on an island.  It’s a metaphor for this or this is what the author was trying to
say.  In a way its happening with the release of our CD as people are trying to find the right answers.  It has been fun for
me.

M4M: So what tends to be your daily routine, being on the road and getting ready for a show, so the people out there
have an idea what it’s like?

SHANE: It’s the same kind of routine everyday.  We have a bus and generally what happens is the bus drives overnight
while we’re sleeping which can be cool cause you wake up and you’re in the next city and everything is different.  It’s nice
having a bus because you don’t have to worry about all that driving time like you do when you’re in a van.  We’ll do some
interviews during the day.  We’ll see our friends if we’re in their city, grab lunch of something.  Go wander around and
see the sites, if we have time.  Sound check and set up.  Doors for the show open around seven and we play around
nine thirty, and afterwards hang out with friends again…party it up, then crash on the bus and off to the next city.

M4M:For me it would definitely be interesting to wake up in another city, but you guys are pros at touring, so it must be
all good for you. (laughs)

SHANE: Funny you should say.  I don’t’ think I’ve ever been like “oh where are we today.”  I’m pretty in tune with it and a
lot of these places I’ve been to so many times I have a good feel for the place

M4M: Having been a band for a number of years,  how do you see yourself looking back compared to what you are as a
band now?

SHANE: Hmmm.  I don’t think we’ve changed very much in terms of who we are.  We’re not like oh got a new CD lets
change our look kinda band.  I think that happens when you achieve some kind of great success, some kind of huge
fame or some overnight huge single.  We’ve never been that kind of a band. We’ve sold a number of records and have
been doing this a long time and how we make our living, but at the same time it’s been a slow progression that I don’t
think any of that (fame) has really caught up to us. I think a lot of what has happened, we’ve become more mature,
smarter about things and how things work, not just in the music industry but life in general.

M4M: Its shows how a band as a whole how important growth is and people don’t really realize that and or expect it
sometimes.  It does show for you though and how you’ve develope
d

SHANE: Well, I’m twenty eight.  Been in this band now for nine years and definitely been on the road a long time.  What
is weird is it’s like living Saturday everyday.  People have social experiences on the weekends where you can have fun
and let go whereas we kinda go through this everyday.  It does make it different in terms of experiences.  It changes you
both in maturity and in dealing with things.

M4M: Well congratulations on all you have achieved.  We definitely look forward to expecting greater things to come
from what you do and your music.

SHANE: Thanks! I’m excited to see everyone on the road and can’t wait to hang out with everyone!
