It is now day two at Rock On The Range and picks up right where day one leaves off. Some fans at the gate say day
2 is the better of the two days and if that is the case then every other music festival out there better be watching there
backs. We started our day by heading down to the second stage to catch Saving Abel; a group that is starting to really
pick up some fans (Not that they didn’t have any before) I noticed looking around me that the second stage was packed
with people a lot more people than the previous day and already not a single note has been played. Saving Abel was
what we expected them to be with high energy and moving around a lot on stage. It makes for a great show to see
movement and mobility of the act instead of the normal stand in one place routine. The second group to take the stage
was a hard-hitting Revelation Theory. It is kind of ironic for this group to have two hits “Hell Yeah” and “Light It Up”
because that is just what they did, they light it up. Like their song “Hell Yeah” that is what people were saying when this
group finished and in my opinion could be proclaimed top performance on the second stage of either day. It would be
great to see them come back next year and rock the main stage!
There were some set changes to due Flyleaf being unable to perform. Lead vocalist Lacy Mosley had lost her voice
and was forced to back out of there final five tour dates including this one, luckily I have had the opportunity to catch
them before and if they are on the bill next year they are worth checking out. The main stage kicks off around 2:30 right
after Black Tide finished up there set on the second stage. Five Finger Death Punch steps on stage and brought it!
Definitely the right choice to open the stage for the day. This group is amazing to watch and dragged the crowd in before
they even started to play. The water bottles were flying off the stage and I am sure there wasn’t one person in the first
ten rows who wasn’t a little wet. As far as there music goes they play heavy metal but more of the heavy metal from
yesterday in a sense where there lyrics have meaning instead of loud noise like some groups put out now a days.
Over on the second stage area favorites Bobaflex take the stage to a very warm crowd welcoming. Going into Rock On
the Range we had just started hearing about Bobaflex and what they bring to the table in a sense. We were delighted
with there music and stage performance, it was definitely more than I had expected and they have gained a new fan.
Going back to the main stage as things start to heat up with Alter Bridge taking the stage. Alter Bridge is really starting to
pick up fans at every leg of their tour and put on a great performance as well. Now the two remaining groups on the
second stage Drowning Pool and Sevendust are very well known groups and to hear either name and second stage
together in the same sentence is unheard of. Drowning Pools set was filled with energy. So much energy that lead singer
Ryan McCombs son had his own devil horns going throughout the set. Ryan as many know already is not the original
lead singer of this group. Dave Williams started the group and helped them achieve platinum status before passing away
of what was later determined as heart disease. The group hired Jason Jones to take Williams spot was not around very
long as fans just didn’t feel he could fill the shoes of Williams. Ryan McCombs took over on lead during ozzfest and fans
love the guy, not that anyone could replace Williams. McCombs vocals are a lot like those of Williams but at the same
time holds his own style. We see great things to come in the future for this group.
Like a ping-pong ball we bounce back to the main stage and for good reason. Seether is now on stage and over the
past few years has raced to the top of the music world. The performance like there albums was very diverse and no
song sounded the same. Shaun has the ability to change tempos at any time and the group is constantly changing there
sound to bring fans a new experience. Whether they played “Fake It” or “Truth” fans reacted with overwhelming cheers.
Seether put on a hell of a performance that day! We now take you back to the headliner of the second stage Sevendust.
Lead singer Lajon Witherspoon is not only a very talented artist but as we found out earlier in the day a very nice guy in
general. You see a group on stage and have an image burned on what that person is like but sometimes you meet an
artist that is so far off from what you perceive them to be. Witherspoon is a down to earth well mannered gentleman,
earlier in the day he had stopped by the press tent making sure to approach each and everyone of us asking us our
name and telling us what a pleasure it was to meet us. I wonder if he knew somewhere deep inside the pleasure was
ours. As far as performance goes they tore the place up. Bassist Vince Hornsby was one of the most entertaining people
to watch. I do not believe the man stood still for a second and was in the crowds face the entire time. If there were the
award for best performance on the second stage it really would have been a toss up between Revelation Theory and the
group that got them there first tour Sevendust.
We can now concentrate solely on the main stage for the rest of the evening with Papa Roach taking over. No words
can really describe the energy and performance level from this group. Lead singer Jacoby Shaddix can only be
described as a fans best friend and a securities worst nightmare. It is as though the crowd is a giant magnet that he just
cannot seem to stay away from. He consistently makes his way into the crowd but at the same time not missing a note.
Security which is already very tight and involved with all the crowd surfers surely could have done without the extra
problems, but for the fans that is what makes a show right? Being able to reach out and touch someone you came all the
way to see. Papa Roach boldly proclaimed to the crowd that in two years they would be headlining Rock On The Range.
After that performance who would doubt them?
It is amazing to me that the next group to set foot on stage would be anything less than the headliner nor have I ever
heard them opening for anyone in years. A group so big they sell out large venues all by themselves. Yes we are talking
about powerhouse group 3 Doors Down. Brad and the gang step on stage and take over from the start. The crowd
already knowing every single song being played. The only thing missing from their performance was the elaborate stage
set up that they are accustomed to always having. I must tell you that never for a second took away from there
performance and it was high energy the entire time. We would have been fine with them being the final group to step on
stage.
Kid Rock this years headliner for day two did what everyone expected him to do, he rocked the way only Kid Rock
knows how. He has certain poise about him that fans react to. It is quite hard to explain but ask any of the fans there that
night and they will tell you he was simply on fire. I personally am not a huge Kid Rock fan but I must give it up to him that I
would be back to watch him perform again.
So ask yourself this one question. Where would I be able to go and for two days get rocked by these kind of groups?
The answer is simple! Only at Rock On The Range. Just for you record keepers out there Rock On The Range by mid-
day Sunday was given the official title of the biggest rock concert in the United States! Next year you better make plans
because it is happening all again.
