Do you ever have a moment, when your whole body is still but everything inside of you isn’t? Where all of your emotions are at peace
except for the need for the melody? When everything around you stops and all you can do is stand there and listen? And all of this just
happens when you listen to the band. It doesn’t even include actually seeing them perform those songs live. I’ve seen many bands play live
along the way and there are few that are able to knock me into a place where everything is still. Seldom does it happen once, but very
seldom does it happen more than once. Not with RED. Each time, RED performs a mesmerizing show and places each individual into the
show just by being apart of it themselves. Tonight was no different.
The line outside covers the sidewalk from the left and right, and it’s only 630. Doors don’t even open till 7. Upon entering, each
newcomer crowds the merch table, grabbing what they can before sizes run out. After two local openers, Black Days Down and 3 Pill
Morning, the fellow touring and Spoken, plays. While the crowd warms up another successful band for the night, few are able to see that
each member of RED is on the sidelines, watching their friends play. Most bands are in their rooms, waiting for the opening bands to get
done so they can go on and do their thing. Not these ones. The sing and cheer along like they are apart of the very crowd that has come to
see them. Randy, the bassist, is even sporting a Spoken t-shirt. Once the last 2 songs are being play, the boys in RED get ready for their
part in the show.
Minutes later, the spotlights dim, the star lights become brighter and the crowd chants “RED.” As each member walks on stage, the
crowd’s cheers only get louder. The second they begin playing, is the second the crowd finally let’s loose. Amidst the amounts of singing
along and fists in the air, there’s an overwhelming unity that only some crowds can create. And it’s a perfect night for unity, it’s July 4th. It’s
also the perfect band to be playing, RED, white and blue. You can’t come by that blend of band and flag more than that. One song leads into
another and each song is received just as warmly if not more, than its predecessor. The singles “Breathe Into Me” and “Let Go” move their
way into the soul searching songs of “Pieces” and “Already Over.” As you watch each band member, you realize they’re independent of one
another but are a group of brothers. Anthony’s articulated guitar swings match that of Jasen’s. The perfect harmony of both players is
something remarkable and begins that movement of peaceful instilment. Accompanying the movement is bassist Randy with his perfected
pulse-amplified ability. The precise agility to carry the beat even further, is Hayden on drums. Each beat personifies the feelings every
person in the crowd. To lead on with vocals, is Michael. His unfailing melodies and meaningful lyrics only exemplify his natural craft. RED
covers only the best ranges of skill, art, personality and honesty.
As the end of RED’s set draws near, the crowd chants for one more song. And they are given exactly what they asked for, the best
possible ending that can be given. The last note falls and the cheers ring throughout the building and follow the boys as they exit the stage
and make their way to the sidelines to meet each fan. The fans are abundant but that means all the more for Michael, Jasen, Hayden,
Randy and Anthony. The graciousness each member treats every fan only places them that much more into the lives of the people that
came to see them. Like I said, it was the ideal night for RED to play but then again, they can play any night of the week and still have the
same effect.
